Favela Tour Rio

Rio de Janeiro tourist has probably heard about Cidade de Deus or saw a movie about it. Frankly speaking, this movie creates a bad stereotype of our Marvelous city. In order to disperse this stereotype and show modern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Expedition developed a special city tour in Rio called Favela Tour. This Rio tour will take you to the favela called Rocinha.

Day tour to the favela Rocinha (the largest favela in Rio or “shantytown” in South America) are organized by our Brazilian English speaking tour guide Bruno. He worked in favela as a volunteer for a one year. 

The favela tour Rio de Janeiro is non-intrusive and respectful of the lives of the people living in the Rio favela. It is not like a “zoo-tour” in vans or jeeps done by other tour companies. Transport is by public transportation (van and moto-taxi) to and from the favela.  The guide informs you of the history, social and economic functioning of the Rocinha favela; and as the tour groups are small you will be able to meet some of the people who lives there, inside of favela.

You can also experience and take photos of the breath-taking views that the favela has of Ipanema, the Sugarloaf and the Christ statue. 

The favela tour Rio usually takes about 4 hours. The price for favela tour is R$65. This covers your transportation and a monetary contribution to the Rio favelas’ community.
