World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro

WYD in Rio de Janeiro, said the Pope, which will take place from July 23 to 28 July, will be a "precious occasion for many young people to experience the joy and beauty of belonging to the Church and to live the faith."

The white sand and busy sidewalk of Copacabana beach are going to receive over a million pilgrims for World Youth Day in July, where three of the five Main Events will take place. The Main Events are the biggest events in the WYD schedule. The ones which will take place at Copacabana Beach are:

23 July: the Opening Mass with the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, Dom Orani João Tempesta

25 July: the Papal Welcoming Ceremony

26 July: the Stations of the Cross of the Youth, which will also take place with the Holy Father

Christ the Redeemer at Corcovado will be open at night, so will be a good opportunity to see from another view the night of the Rio de Janeiro.
